Work & Process

I build websites, I create Brands, I make apps

Throughout the years I’ve had the incredible opportunity to produce some phenomenal websites (quite a few, too!) and apps, each better refining my skill.

Since 2017 I’ve also hosted apps in the App Store, with my current focus being Caramel. I am obsessed with the iOS and AppKit APIs and am always looking for ways to deepen my knowledge in this realm.

My goal for this year is to add to all of this by doing a little bit more writing about my experiences in both of these domains, while also trying to pick up a few tricks along the way.

How I do It

The nuts and bolts of my construction

I primarily write websites in HTML, SCSS, and PHP or Javascript and my apps are majority Swift based. I spend a lot of time reading what’s up and coming and enjoy the constant new of my field.

Familiar Technologies

It’s not without the building blocks of others that I could do my work. Over the course of my time I’ve become accustomed to several technologies and use them repeatedly through my projects. This is just a small slice of my favorites tools for web and app development.

Development Standards

Native tools. Solid construction. Thought from the ground up.

I don’t take shortcuts and aim to use the best practices at my dispose to ensure my projects can withstand scrutiny and real world usage. This means native frameworks (native web languages and native UIKit and AppKit) and using a robust set of established patterns.

Simple things should be simple, complex things should be possible.

Best said by Alan Kay, I make sure my development is simple. I attempt to make all of my code approachable but extensible for the next person who has to pick up the load (and for the next time I have to dig in there!)

Add cautiously.

I do my best to make sure my projects are lean. While I don’t want to reinvent the wheel, I ensure those pieces I bring in from the outside are robust, like Advanced Custom Fields, Gravity Forms, or RxSwift.

Benchmarks and metrics to reveal bigger pictures

Keeping tabs on how a website or app is performing is just as important as putting it out there. I’ve spent the last year learning how to effectively guide users to a goal and ensure they are getting there.

Always Taking Inquiries

At the moment I am not taking on many new projects, but am still available for inquiry or questions.
