Viewing Issues

Fox 4.0 introduces a unified view-mode system. Every Version and Milestone in the Navigator can be opened as a List, an Outline, or a Board — pick whichever shape fits the task in front of you. Issue Groups (All Issues, Bookmarks, By Priority, Due, and the rest) are locked to List, since they're already a flat slice of the project.

There's no longer a single "Board" destination in the sidebar. The Board is one of three ways to look at any location you've already navigated to.

The centered View Mode picker in the toolbar shows List · Outline · Board. Tap or click to switch — the active location stays put, only the shape changes.

  • Mac — Use the toolbar picker, or View → View As… in the menu bar (with keyboard shortcuts for each mode).
  • iPad — Use the toolbar picker on the wide layout, or the segmented control in the trailing nav bar on compact layouts.
  • iPhone — The segmented picker lives in the trailing nav bar; Add / Filter / Search sit in the bottom toolbar.

Each Version and Milestone remembers its last-used mode across launches. Open one location as a Board and another as an Outline, and they'll come back exactly that way the next time you launch Fox — even across Handoff to another device.

When to Reach for Which

  • List View

Fast scanning, sorting, and manual reorder. Always shows the detail column. The right default for most day-to-day work.

  • Outline View

A dense, spreadsheet-style table with customizable columns and inline editing. Best for bulk planning and reviewing properties across many issues at once.

  • The Board

A kanban board with issues as cards in status columns. Best for visualizing flow, moving work across statuses, and triaging by priority.

The Detail Column

The detail column behaves differently per mode:

  • List — Always visible. Selecting an issue populates the detail; the column never goes away.
  • Outline & Board — Toggleable. Use View → Show/Hide Issue Detail Column (the menu title flips based on current state) or ⌘⇧D on a hardware keyboard. Each mode remembers its own preference.

When the detail column is visible but nothing is selected, you'll see a no-selection placeholder rather than a blank panel. See The Workspace for the full breakdown of selection behavior across modes.
